#ASUS P5K E UPDATE#
Just an update here - replacing the battery doesn't seem to have changed anything. Last edited by chrsthorn February 13th, 2008 at 04:56 PM. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test either the processor or the graphics card in another machine, as the other two PCs in the house are too old.Ĭan anyone please suggest what I can do! Thanks very much for your help! I've read that maybe some ASUS P5x motherboards are duds, but I always worry about RMAing in case it's not the mobo that's at fault and that it's something else. It says it's reading from (I think) the DVD-RW drive, but then does three short beeps and hangs. The computer does not seem to POST at all.
#ASUS P5K E MANUAL#
I have followed instructions in the ASUS motherboard manual on clearing the CMOS by removing the battery then moving the jumper thing (which is quite a pain as it's tucked perfectly behind the graphics card), but that hasn't helped. and then both again but with their original positions swapped. I have tried booting with just one of the two RAM sticks, and then the other. The screen said it was "reading P5KE.ROM" from somewhere (presumably the CD?) but it didn't seem to fix anything.

I then put the motherboard CD in to see if that would do anything, and it was after that point that I got a "BAD BIOS CHECKSUM. So, for the last day or two I've been getting a multitude of different BSOD STOP errors, including PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, BAD_POOL_HEADER, PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.īooting into Safe Mode never worked properly, so I tried just booting from the Vista DVD to reinstall Windows, but no joy. Other than that, I've not done a lot, and recently because I put in a new hard drive and installed my own copy of Vista Home Premium 圆4 the BIOS has been reset to default settings anyway. I also relaxed the memory timings from 5-5-5-15 at about 1.90V (if I remember) to 4-4-4-12 at 2.0V (max Corsair say is 2.1V). I had a look into the prospect over overclocking the CPU last week, and after lots of reading, I just nudged it up to 2.80GHz. It's run games like Crysis and Flight Simulator X very well, and for extended periods of time.
